Sanjay Dutt Pardon

Won't seek pardon: Sanjay Dutt

An emotional Sanjay Dutt is consoled by sister Priya during a press conference in Bandra on Thursday.

Actor Sanjay Dutt folded his hands before media persons, shed tears and hugged sister Priya Dutt on Thursday — his first public appearance after the Supreme Court sentenced him to five years in jail under the Arms Act for his role in the 1993 serial blasts. Amid the raging debate on whether he deserves forgiveness, Dutt said he will not try to seek pardon.
“I have not applied for any pardon. The Supreme Court has given me time to surrender and I will surrender at that time,” Dutt said. “I am a shattered man, my family is shattered. I want to thank whoever has supported us. I have a lot of work to finish and now I want to spend time with my family.”
The actor said there were many others who deserved a pardon more than him. However, that did not deter his supporters from backing him to the hilt.
Press Council of India chairperson Markandey Katju on Monday sent a written appeal to the president seeking pardon for Dutt and Zaibunissa Kazi, another convict in the case.
Earlier in the day, he was quoted as saying: “Sanjay Dutt may not appeal for pardon, but I will appeal for his pardon. I think he deserves pardon.”
